Environment

Mountview is situated in the Borough of Haringey, North London, home of the famous Alexandra Palace. The site is the Wood Green Complex which is well placed for easy access to West End theatres, fringe venues and London nightlife.

Wood Green complex
This is where most of the training and rehearsal work for Performance, Technical and Directing students take place.

The Ralph Richardson Memorial Studios:
Rehearsal Studios, the Learning Resources Centre and Offices. This is the base for the Principal, Academic Registrar, Finance, Development and Performance Course Administrators.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh Studios:
Opened by Sir Cameron Mackintosh in May 1996 consists of specialist Dance and Musical Theatre studios, The Jill Meggido Studio for Performance and the Keyboard Laboratory.

Sir John Mills Studios:
Rehearsal and Singing Studios.

The Stage Suite:
Opened in 2001 by Catherine Comerford, Managing Director of The Stage Newspaper, which generously sponsored IT equipment and software: this purpose-built suite, fitted out in consultation with experts from various companies including the Royal National Theatre, provides Technical Theatre students with well-ventilated, modern rooms including a Design Studio, Wet and Dry Props Room, state of the art Sound Studio and a CAD Suite.

The entire Wood Green complex includes two adaptable Performance Studios, twenty two Rehearsal Studios, eight Singing and Music Tutorial Rooms, Alexander Technique Rooms, Radio Studio, Television studio and Editing suite, Construction Workshop, Learning Resource Centre, Students’ Common Room, Cafe, Showers and Changing Room facilities.

Learning Resources Centre
The Peter Coxhead Memorial Library holds books, audio and video collection of a wide range of arts-related subjects plus up-to-date IT provision.

Performance Facilities
Productions are presented throughout the year. There are studio theatre facilities at the Ralph Richardson Memorial studios. Mountview also presents productions in outside venues including The Pleasance, The New Players, Chelsea Theatre, The Shaw Theatre, The Albany and The Cockpit Theatres. Public productions are well supported by the local community as well as by members of the profession such as Agents and Casting Directors. There are bar facilities on performance evenings.

Student Welfare
As a student at Mountview your welfare and happiness are of prime importance and great emphasis is placed on pastoral care and physical health. A student welfare booklet is issued to each student at the beginning of the course, which contains a wide range of information and advice.

Accommodation
There is a wide choice of flats, bedsits or shared houses in Wood Green and around the surrounding areas, which are substantially less expensive than in the centre of London. We offer assistance in finding accommodation and an up to date temporary accommodation list is supplied to all new students giving comprehensive information an accommodation suitable for use while looking for somewhere permanent. Mountview and the Student Union are always happy to give advice about finding accommodation.

Student’s Union
Membership of the Student’s Union is open to all full-time and part-time students of Mountview. As an affiliate of the National Union of Students, the Union has access to a wide range of services and discounts. In addition to the Student’s Union the full-time student body elects its own committee which has regular meetings with the senior management team and the Principal to discuss any suggestions or complaints student
