The Haringey Young People's Bursary scheme is a joint initiative between Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation. The scheme, which started in September 2010, was put in place to support young people (aged 11-24) from the borough of Haringey who are interested in the performing arts.

The bursary scheme provides financial support by removing the barrier of course fees, encouraging local young people to participate in a diverse programme of part-time performing arts courses including acting, musical theatre, film making and street dance.

The scheme has worked better than anyone could have predicted, achieving everything that was hoped for and more; by removing the barrier of fees, evening and weekend drama training at Mountview is now accessible to all, which in turn has created an extremely diverse and vibrant young people's programme which truly represents the borough in which we live.

In the autumn term (September 2010) 33 Bursaries were applied for and awarded. By the summer term (May 2011) 107 bursaries were applied for and awarded. In total, over 230 bursaries have been awarded during the past year.

Mountview is thrilled to announce that, thanks to the continuing support from the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation, the Haringey Young Peoples Bursaries will be available for the 2011/2012 year. Eddie Gower, Mountview's Head of Community Outreach and Professional Development, expressed his excitement at the continuation of the successful programme:

"The bursary scheme has completely transformed the part-time courses at Mountview. Thanks to the scheme, drama training is now accessible to all young people from the borough of Haringey who, in the past, may have been excluded due to financial restrictions."

Editors' Notes: Evening and weekend courses for both adults (17+) and young people (6-18) cover a wide range of disciplines including Acting, Musical Theatre, TV & Film, and Street Dance. Each bursary is considered on an individual basis of need and tuition fee discounts ranging from 30% – 100% are awarded as necessary.

The Tottenham Grammar School Foundation has provided over £17 million in Grants and Awards across the last 21 years to students and to local schools, colleges and other charities.
