This November (14th-25th), Haringey students will be given the chance to enjoy Shakespeare in a new and accessible way, as four of his most popular plays tour eight Haringey Schools*.

Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, based in the heart of the borough, has commissioned one-hour adaptations of Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It and The Comedy of Errors.

Maintaining the beauty and brilliance of the Bard’s words while fashioning the plays to be sleeker, faster and more attractive to a young, modern audience, Mountview has organised this Haringey tour with the primary intention of introducing Shakespeare to a new generation; a generation that might otherwise feel that such classics have lost their relevance in today’s world. The four plays will be performed by Mountview’s third-year Acting students, who graduate from the Academy in June 2012.
Mountview is fully committed to working within the community and introducing both drama and drama training to as diverse a range of young people as possible. The plays will be performed in schools free of charge and are to be followed by a workshop for the pupils, led by the actors themselves.

* The Schools to be visited are: Parkview, St. Thomas Moore, Hornsey School for Girls, Northumberland Park, Woodside High School, Fortismere, Haringey 6th and Gladesmore.
