Michael Longhurst
Since graduating in 2004, Michael has built an impressive list of credits, working on some exciting and acclaimed projects.
His production of Peter Morris' Guardians was an Edinburgh Festival Fringe First winner in 2005, which transferred to London's Theatre503 and was revived as part of the Barbican's This Is War exhibition. In 2007 he won the Jerwood Directors Award at the Young Vic where he directed debbie tucker green's dirty butterfly. His promenade production of Stovepipe by Adam Brace for HighTide Festival transferred to a found space in London in association with the National Theatre and Bush Theatre and recently featured as one of the Sunday Times top ten 'Theatre Events of the Decade'.
Other directing work includes: Gaudeamus at the Arcola; Penelope Skinner's 1 In 5 for Hampstead Theatre Daring Pairings; New Voices: 24 Hour Plays at the Old Vic; Steve Waters' On The Beach as part of Climate Change double bill The Contingency Plan at the Bush Theatre (shortlisted for the John Whiting Award); and new musical It's About Time by Joel Horwood & Arthur Darvill for Nabokov at the Latitude Festival.
Michael also directed development workshops of a Romanian and Mexican play on the 2009 & 2010 Royal Court International Residency. During 2011 Michael is directing Remembrance Day by Aleksey Scherbak at the Royal Court, Diana Quick in Midnight Your Time at the HighTide & Edinburgh Festivals, followed by verbatim play On The Record in the new Arcola for Iceandfire.
Michael is set to make a most exciting New York directorial debut in August 2012 with ‘If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet’ by Nick Payne, with Jake Gyllenhaal headlining.
