Applicants are emailed full details of Mountview's audition/interview requirements on receipt of a completed application form.

Postgraduate courses - June 21st
Acting
Applicants are required to learn and present two contrasting pieces; one modern (1956 - present day) and one Shakespeare. They will also take part in improvisation and voice sessions. Auditioning is a one day, two phase process – preliminary and recall.
WHAT TO PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION
- One Shakespeare monologue
- One monologue from a modern play (written after 1956)
Please note that the monologues must:
- Last no longer than 2 minutes each
- Be from published plays and should not be extracts from poems, novels, films or television scripts
- Involve a character chosen from your own gender and close to your own age
- Be performed in your own native accent
Further information will be provided when your audition date is confirmed.

Musical Theatre (BA & Postgraduate)
WHAT TO PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION
- Two (contrasting) songs from the Musical Theatre repertoire
- One monologue (in blank verse) from a play by William Shakespeare
- One monologue from a British modern play (written after 1956)

SCHEDULE OF THE AUDITION DAY
PHASE ONE
Singing: You will be asked to perform one of your songs to an audition panel.
Dance: You will be asked to take part in a Jazz class which will include a warm up, stretches and corner exercises. Following this you will be taught a short dance routine which will then be performed to the audition panel.
The audition panel meet to select which applicants will be invited to attend Phase two
PHASE TWO
Acting: You will be asked to present both your monologues to the audition panel. The panel may decide to give you direction or work on your performance at this session.
Singing: You will present your second song to the audition panel. The panel may decide to give you direction or work on your performance at this session.

Theatre Directing
After a short briefing meeting, candidates will rehearse a scene with professional actors for approximately 50 minutes. The scene must be one chosen by the candidate from a selection sent to them prior to the interview day. Part of this rehearsal will be observed. The focus of this rehearsal should be on process not a finished product. An interview with the Head of Course will follow at which there will be the opportunity to ask questions about the course. Mountview offers 6-10 places per year.
Theatre Production Arts Interviews
Applicants for BA Theatre Production Arts and PG Diploma Technical Theatre courses attend interviews with senior members of the Production staff. The interview panel are looking for prospective students who show a strong commitment to theatre and related areas. There will be an opportunity for applicants to look round Mountview and to ask questions.
Applicants should bring with them samples of their work which demonstrate skills or interest in one or more of the following:
- Stage Management
- Lighting
- Sound Design
- Construction
Candidates are normally advised of the decision of the interview panel within two weeks.
Musical Direction:
The audition consists of the following:
- A session of vocal coaching with a current BA performance student
- A session of sight-reading on the piano
- 2 prepared pieces to be played on the piano
Candidates should prepare 2 contrasting pieces on the piano; one from the classical repertoire and one from the Musical Theatre repertoire - Interview with a senior member of Musical Theatre staff
