DaDA Awards
The Dance and Drama Awards (DaDA) are scholarships funded by the Learning and Skills Council. They are awarded by schools to the students who display the most potential to succeed in the profession.
Only students taking an approved Trinity College London qualification will be eligible to apply for an Award. These courses last between one and three years and are at National Diploma or National Certificate level. Awards offer greatly reduced tuition fees and access to an income-assessed student support fund. For further information about the awards and eligibility, please visit the DaDA website at www.direct.gov.uk/danceanddrama
Funding for Under-graduate courses
- 2 Year BA (Hons) Technical Theatre/National Diploma in Professional Production Skills
- 3 Year BA (Hons) Performance/National Diploma in Performance (Acting & Musical Theatre).
The Academy receives an allocation of Dance and Drama Awards from the Learning and Skills Council, although this allocation is subject to annual change. The allocation is for 3 and 2 year places. The Academy normally allocates its awards at the end of the audition/interview cycle in the academic year prior to entry. Students from the United Kingdom and EU are eligible to be considered for these Awards. All eligible candidates are considered for these awards and there is no need to apply for them during your initial application to the Academy.
Dance and Drama awards are allocated on the basis of talent shown at the audition/interview.
We may at our discretion, also take your and your families financial circumstances into account to aid us in deciding who may get an award.
If you are in receipt of a Dance and Drama Award, the Award will cover the majority of your tuition fees; you will be asked to make only a contribution to these fees. For 2009/2010 the student fee contribution has been set at £1,275. This amount is reviewed each year.
It is very important to note that because of Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA) regulations you may not apply for a student loan if you are in receipt of a DaDA.
DaDA students can, however, apply for further financial assistance to the Fees and Maintenance Fund. The Fees and Maintenance Fund provides a means-tested grant (not a loan). Full details are available on the website www.direct.gov.uk/moneytolearn This is a very useful website and you are strongly advised to consult it for detailed information on the DaDA scheme.
If you enter as a self-funding student, without a DaDA, you are eligible to apply to the Student Loans Company for a maintenance loan and the optional tuition fee loan (set at £3,225 for 2009/2010) as the Academy has Specific Designation. Any tuition fee loan taken is deducted from full fees each year, the balance being the responsibility of the student.
