Autumn Intake

The MA/Postgraduate Diploma course is an intensive one year course in Musical Theatre performance. The course covers fundamental disciplines with the aim of providing students with the appropriate skills and practical experience necessary to pursue and sustain a successful career in the industry. The intensive nature of the course requires not only appropriate experience, talent and potential but also maturity, dedication and commitment. The Academy offers the course, principally, to students who have already completed a Higher Education qualification and who are able to satisfy us at audition that there is evidence that they are capable of acquiring in one year proficiencies and skills with which to embark on a professional career in a highly competitive employment sphere. Places may also be offered to other mature non-graduates who, by virtue of their previous experience, demonstrate the capacity to benefit from the course and to be capable of acquiring appropriate professional skills.

Like the society of which it is part, the theatre is in a condition of diversity, transformation and change. The course seeks to enable the development of a physically skilled, inventive, confident and self-reliant performer who will be able to respond to and act formatively upon a variety of professional performance opportunities in a range of contexts.

To fulfil its aims, the course provides students with Performance opportunities and a practical training in essential Physical, Vocal and Acting Skills, followed by both MA and Postgraduate diploma students alike. The course involves total participation in classes, project workshops and tutorials, but is structured progressively to place students in control of their own resources as a performer and to empower them to assume progressively greater responsibility for their own work. Mountview sees a student's ability to 'own' their personal creativity and skills as the foundation for a career in theatre in the twenty-first century. The Academy wants Mountview graduates, to be actors with the potential to be regularly employable in a tremendously varied industry and to possess the intellectual and creative energy to engage actively in the development of the arena in which they work.

The course reflects the demands of the contemporary professional musical theatre for highly-skilled performers able to combine Acting, Singing and Movement in their presentation of a seamless journey of character. In the training, therefore, equal emphasis is given to the disciplines of Singing, Dance, Movement, Voice and Acting to enable the performer to flow from text into song and dance with no loss of character. Musical Theatre students also benefit from weekly one-to-one singing lessons.

Mountview welcomes applications from all sections of society and celebrates diversity of ethnicity, religion, gender, age and disability.
