The Home Project is a creative community arts project exploring the idea of home.
Using art making, film, music, poetry and installation we will collaboratively develop the project which will culminate in two ways:
THE CREATION OF A TIME CAPSULE
A time capsule will be created that will hold 100 selected pieces to be sealed and held at Mountview in Peckham. In developing the Project we will consider how to store, archive, celebrate and commemorate the work.
PERFORMANCE AND INSTALLATION
The Home Project will also include a range of performances and installations including spoken word, music, film, art, sound installation and photography at Mountview.
The Project began with an exhibition in December 2019 called Peckham Means Business.
An exhibition presented in Mountview’s atrium this was a playful collaboration with Peckham’s local traders and school children. The project celebrated 30 independent shops and shopkeepers through photographic and drawn portraiture, audio-recorded storytelling and a mapping installation. Find out more about the exhibition here.
The Home Project is led by Sarah Preece. The Executive Director and joint CEO of Mountview, Sarah is also a Peckham resident and Peckham Levels artist. As a member of the Peckham community and in her role at Mountview she is leading the Home Project to introduce the school and the community to one another.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Over the course of the next 18 months there will be a number of ways to get involved in the project. From art making workshops with Sarah at her studio at Peckham Levels, to short film submissions on the topic of home, to using the hashtag #homeprojectpeckham on your social media when you capture images that make you think of home – you can be part exploring what home is.
