Investing in Our New Home

Mountview has secured a high street site in the heart of Peckham on which to build a new school.

Our new building will open in September 2018. We have already secured 80% of the funds through a combination of loan funding, donations and pledges. We need to raise the final £6.5m to ensure we can complete the project.

Mountview’s new building will change the shape of UK drama training. We will be the only drama school to combine world-class training and a fully integrated community programme with facilities for professional artists to hire and develop their craft. For the first time the school will have facilities to match the world-class quality of our training, united on one site with two of our own theatres to house our public productions. We will have room to expand our community programme and lettable rehearsal and office spaces for the creative industries.

By supporting Mountview today you can help us achieve our vision to build an innovative, unique drama school. You will secure Mountview’s future as a leading trainer and support the next generation of talented artists, directors and theatre technicians. With your investment, we can ensure that Mountview’s global impact across the creative industries continues to grow and thrive.

We are seeking donations from individuals, grants from Trusts and Foundations and in kind support and sponsorship from companies. There are a range of naming opportunities and ways to get involved in the project. Contact Liz Scase, Head of Development to find out more: lizscase@mountview.org.uk / 020 8829 1078.

Meet our Campaign Ambassadors

Why we need to move

  • Mountview is currently based in Wood Green, north London. Our premises are no longer in line with our ambition, vision and track record of success. The main issues are:
  • We have no dedicated theatre space for our students to perform and rehearse
  • Mountview rents the site from four landlords and rent costs are sky-rocketing each year
  • Studio spaces are not purpose-built; they are restrictive and out-dated, with no facilities to control room temperature and no sound proofing between classrooms
  • The campus is tucked away on an industrial estate, offering limited opportunities for interaction with the public
  • Different performance genres are segregated across the site and there are no areas for the whole student body to congregate
  • We have no room to expand our robust outreach programme or community work

The New Building

Designed by Carl Turner Architects, Mountview’s development will be a landmark building. Fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the new building will include:

  • 200-seat main theatre and 80-seat studio theatre
  • 21 rehearsal and dance studios
  • TV, radio, media and broadcasting facilities
  • Specialist performing arts library and computer suite
  • 16 singing and music practice rooms
  • Theatre production workshops
  • Rehearsal and office spaces, available for hire
  • Public foyer with café and bars
  • Rooftop restaurant with panoramic views of the London skyline

Through our vocational courses, community programme, lettable rehearsal facilities and café and rooftop bar, we will welcome over 250,000 visitors to the building each year.

Impact of the new building

Mountview’s new building will be a game changer for the school, local area and the UK’s creative industries as a whole. It will be an invaluable resource, providing the organisation with purpose-built, world-class facilities; new sources of income; and security for the future. The school will be a public building, welcoming local residents, young people and creative professionals to share Mountview’s world-class facilities.

  • Two new theatres will be open to the public year-round, housing over 20 Mountview productions annually plus visiting community and professional work. Discounted and free tickets will be available for local residents and concessions
  • Mountview’s community programme will expand, opening up new partnerships with neighbouring schools and arts organisations and reaching an estimated 15,000 young people a year through volunteering programmes, apprenticeships and weekend and evening courses
  • Out of core teaching hours, the building will become an academy for the community, providing Peckham’s many community arts, cultures and performance groups with space to perform.
  • The café and rooftop bar will provide a new destination at the top of the high street, offering panoramic views of the London skyline
  • Lettable spaces – including a studio theatre and rehearsal rooms – will bring artists into the building, enabling professionals and amateurs to develop their practice side by side
  • Mountview will bring an estimated £13.7m per year to the local area and provide new jobs in building management, catering and cleaning, expanding to a staff of 185 in admin, maintenance and teaching roles

In Kind support

Mountview’s new building will be kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. We are seeking in-kind support to help us ensure that the building is equipped with the most up-to-date technology. This could include a donation of equipment to kit out our specialist performing arts library or computer-design suite, or support to enable us to make our technology systems and resources completely mobile both on and off site.

Corporate Support

There are several branding and sponsorship packages available for companies who are interested in supporting Mountview’s move to Peckham. We are pleased to offer a range of high profile branding opportunities throughout the new building as well as benefits for staff, suppliers and customers including ticket packages and volunteering opportunities.
