Course Overview

Access training at a world-leading drama school – part-time.

For over 25 years, Mountview has been internationally recognised for the excellence of its musical theatre training. Our Part-Time Acting Vocational course offers a rigorous, inspiring and accessible pathway into performance training, delivered in a flexible format designed to sit alongside other commitments.

Running over six months on three evenings a week, the course provides the core elements of acting training while allowing students to balance work, study and other personal circumstances. Through practical classes, students develop technique, repertoire, confidence and creative independence, while beginning to define their own artistic identity.

This course is designed for people at many different stages of their performance journey, including those who are:

  • Exploring whether full-time training is right for them
  • Preparing for progression onto CertHE, BA or MA acting courses
  • Returning to training or considering a career change
  • Passionate about performing and keen to develop their skills in an encouraging, professional environment
  • Looking to strengthen their technique and experience before entering the industry directly
  • Curious about drama training and want to try something new

Alumni of Mountview’s part-time programmes have gone on to secure places at leading drama schools including Mountview, RADA, Guildhall, LAMDA, ArtsEd, Italia Conti, Central School of Speech and Drama, Rose Bruford and GSA, as well as progressing directly into professional work within the industry.

The course is taught from October to March on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm – 9:30pm.

While the course is part time in its delivery, its content and intensity place high demands on students and it requires dedication.

Participants will be given a wide range of material in each Unit and will be expected to memorise material in Units 2 and 3. The course is completely practice based but there will be optional reading recommendations for participants interested in further theoretical research.

Course Content

The course is split into three Units.

The first will focus on foundational skills in acting, voice and movement.

The second will include workshops on Shakespeare, improvisation and contemporary scene study.

In between Units 2 and 3, there will be a two-week audition intensive, focused solely on audition prep, including participating in mock auditions with a feedback session.

Unit 3 includes workshops in screen acting, guidance on self-tapes and showreels, and rehearsals.

An informal ensemble sharing on the last night of the course concludes the programme.

“I appreciated that the classes were three evenings a week as I was able to fit this around commitments such as work but also was intensive enough to develop new skills and determine if the prospect of full-time training is appropriate for me.”

“I found it to be a very safe place to build the basics. Overall, you feel taken care of and guided through the process. [This] is very important if you are starting your journey or coming back to build confidence again.”

“Acting is very new to me, so I found the entire course very useful. This is driven in large part by the high quality of teaching. Everyone who taught us was great!”
