Mountview awarded £843,543 by Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund

Mountview has today been awarded £843,543 by the Greater London Authority’s Good Growth Fund. The grant will go towards building a new cultural facility for south London and home for Mountview in the heart of Peckham.

This creative hub will provide a unique platform for Mountview, as a world-leading cultural provider, to deliver a pioneering model of Good Growth for London by creating a resource for London creatives, entrepreneurs, residents and community groups together under one roof while enhancing the economic and employment offer to the local area.

The Good Growth Fund is the Mayor of London’s new regeneration programme.  Investment from the Fund will specifically cover Mountview improvements to public realm and the development of community resources through the creation of affordable creative workspaces, production workshop facilities, as well as accessibility features to the building.

Mountview is raising £6.5million through philanthropic fundraising. The GLA grant takes pledges received to £5 million with just £1.5 million left to raise.

Mountview’s Chair Vikki Heywood CBE commented: “Mountview’s vision for a new sort of drama school which is open to all is vital to reshaping the performance and production industry. This grant clearly demonstrates the Mayor and GLA’s commitment to access to the arts and culture. We are hugely grateful to the GLA and look forward to welcoming the community, visitors and industry to our new home in the autumn.”

Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, Jules Pipe, said: “The Mayor and I are determined to use the Good Growth Fund to challenge preconceptions about how regeneration takes place. This project is a great example of how we can work with local communities on projects in a way that will help ensure the benefits are felt by all.
