In this bold reimagining, the descendants of the Players who visited Elsinore all those years ago tell the tale of what took place. Performed by 18 women, Hamlet is full of madness, murder, music and mischief.

Duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes (plus interval)

This production contains scenes which some viewers may find distressing and language which may cause offence.

Please note that this is an academic assessment, and there will be no public in-person performances for Hamlet. The production will be filmed and available to view for free for three weeks from Wednesday 9 December – if you wish to view the recording please register your interest via the ‘book online’ button and you will be sent the viewing link via email. Dan Herd


Dan Herd is Associate to the Head of Undergraduate Performance at Mountview.

Dan has worked as a director at, amongst others, the Lyric Hammersmith, Soho Theatre, Theatre Royal Haymarket, The Old Vic, Smock Alley Theatre Dublin, Theatre503, King’s Head Theatre, Arcola, Latitude Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and off-Broadway. He was an Artistic Associate of Soho Theatre.

Previously for Mountview: Legally Blonde, Six Characters in Search of an Author, Boy, A Clockwork Orange, Undergraduate Musical Theatre Showcases 2017-2019.

Laura Weston

Movement Director

Laura Weston is a freelance dancer-choreographer, movement director and Laban practitioner working across the industry and in higher education.

Credits include Flux#LC, (don’t) touch me (Curve, Leicester), Macbeth, Grimms’ (Guildford Shakespeare Company), Swallows and Amazons, A Clockwork Orange (Mountview), Grapes of Wrath (GSA) and has taught and directed movement projects at Mountview, Rose Bruford, London Studio Centre, IDSA and GSA.

She’s the artistic director of State of Flux, a company who produce and create movement-based work, events and workshops.

Amanda Mascarenhas

Set and Costume Designer

Amanda is a theatre designer and visual artist. She works in theatre, television and events. She is also a facilitator, maker and community artist.

She is Associate Artist to Kazzum Arts and The Kings Head Theatre, and a Trustee of The Kings Head Theatre.

Credits include: Cuttin’ It (Royal Exchange, Manchester), Coming Clean (Trafalgar Studios), It Takes a Village (Royal Opera House), Our Voice, Our Way (Wellcome Trust), Wonder Girl (Ovalhouse), Anna Hibiscus (Discovery Centre), La Traviata (Kings Head Theatre), Run it Back (Talawa Theatre), A Sublime Feeling (Salisbury Playhouse), The Boy and the Mermaid (Paper Balloon), East Meets West (Soho Theatre) and Scrub a Dub (Halfmoon Theatre).

Adam King

Lighting Designer

Adam originally trained at Mountview and has since gone on to work as assistant lighting designer to Neil Austin on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Palace Theatre) and Bend It Like Beckham (Pheonix Theatre).

His own recent credits include: Snowflake/Tornado Stewart Lee (UK tour), Beyond Therapy (UK tour), Royal Ballet School (Royal Opera House/Opera Holland Park/Linbury Theatre), Original Death Rabbit The Wasp (Jermyn Street Theatre) Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin (Harlow Playhouse), The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast (New Theatre Royal Portsmouth).

Olly Steel

Sound Designer

Olly Steel is an award winning Sound Designer, most recently in receipt of ‘Best Sound Design’ for El Medico El Musical a World Premiere adaptation of the bestselling Noah Gordon novel, The Physician.

Throughout a career approaching 20 years in the making, Olly has been a part of countless major productions spanning five continents and over 50 countries. Building a repertoire across musical theatre, live music concerts and festivals, traditional plays, theme park entertainment and beyond.

His other credits include: Singing in the Rain, Cinderella (Rossiya Theatre, Moscow), Young Franksnstein (Garrick Theatre), 42nd Street (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Bat Out of Hell (World Premiere Production, London/Toronto), Guys and Dolls (Theatre Marigny, Paris), Cats (Pattachio Theatre, Cyprus), Pirate Queen (Coliseum Theatre).
