Two hands, ten fingers, two legs, ten toes. That’s the way a pure child grows.

In a post-apocalyptic world, absolute conformity is imposed, and difference is met with violence. A group of young people discover they have an unusual gift, betrayed from within, they escape into the forbidden Fringes.

Written by John Wyndham, the author of sci-fi classic The Day of the Triffids and adapted for the stage by David Harrower. The Chrysalids is performed by members of our MA Acting cohort.

Duration: 75 mins approx. (no interval)

This production violence, weapons, threat, discrimination and animal cruelty.

Shane Dempsey

Director

Shane Dempsey trained at The National Theatre Studio and E15 Acting School.

Theatre: Hamlet (Movement Director), Translations (Staff Director) both National Theatre.

Steve Brownlie

Movement Director and Intimacy Support

Steve teaches movement at many of the country’s leading Drama Schools.

He trained at Mountview and has honed his skills over the last twenty years in numerous scripted, devised and physical theatre productions as a performer, co-creator and director notably working with Rufus Norris, John Cleese and Jenny Sealey.

In his role as Movement Director and Support at Mountview he has been involved with productions including Nativity, Richard II and Marat Sade.

Steve’s previous projects included creating a piece of devised theatre with students at Drama Studio London.
