“There is a woman in need of help. She is a nasty, stupid, wicked wretch – and I mean to save her life…”

In 18th century Suffolk, Sally Poppy is condemned to execution for murder unless she can prove her pregnancy. A jury of twelve women is summoned to determine whether she is truthful or merely attempting to avoid execution. As the women deliberate, their personal stories, hidden secrets, and societal pressures come to light.

A gripping drama from renowned writer Lucy Kirkwood, The Welkin is a thrilling courtroom tale that blends humour with thought-provoking themes of loyalty, oppression and resilience in a male-dominated society. This production is brought to life by our Acting students.

An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
