Steve originally trained as an actor, and worked for over twenty years with companies including The Young Vic, English Shakespeare Company, Theatr Clwyd and Trestle Theatre Company as well as individuals such as David Lan, Malachi Bogdanov and Wils Wilson. As a director he has worked at the Royal Court, English Shakespeare Company, The Pleasance and Jacksons Lane.Steve was the Artistic Director of Jaw Rattle Productions and ran a project in Somaliland exploring conflict resolution and counter-terrorism.
Steve has taught directed at Central School of Speech and Drama, London Metropolitan and Northumbria Universities.
