Cllr Portia Mwangangye

Board

Portia Mwangangye is the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks and Young People at Southwark Council.

As a dedicated local advocate, she previously sat on the board of Mountview to represent the voices of residents in Peckham and young people throughout the borough.

Portia brings legal and business expertise from her strong record in capacity building on a global scale. She previously worked as an International Consultant for the International Trade Centre (an agency for the WTO and the UN), where she used her skills to ensure organisations were well-supported to deliver for their communities. Her time with LUSH Ltd, supporting their work with the LUSH Spring Prize, further saw her fund social and environmental regeneration at the grassroots level for rural organisations.

Passionately focused on community, especially young people, Portia is driven by her life experiences, which enable her to relate to most young people who have not had a good start and have had to struggle for opportunities. Because of this, she has made it her life’s purpose to be the conduit that young people, and anyone in the community, can use to reach their full potential.

Furthermore, Portia’s passion for the creative arts ensures she approaches all her work with innovation and a drive to protect, support, and make the creative industries available to the average young person.
