Simon Byford - Production Seminar Guest Lecturer

Simon Byford has worked in the theatre and events industry as a production manager for over 40 years. Site – specific work has been very much part of his portfolio including site- specific performances with Geraldine Pilgrim Performance Company and Dreamthinkspeak and site- specific dance performances with Rosemary Lee. He is also a consultant on site-specific events – working on venue feasibility, and health and safety. Most recently Simon has worked with Historic Royal Palaces on events at the Tower of London including in 2018, Tom Piper’s “Beyond the Deepening Shadows – The Tower Remembers”; where over half a million people came to remember the fallen of the two World Wars and Hofesh Schechter Dance Company’s “East Wall” with 200 local participants. His work with dance companies includes New Adventures, The Royal Ballet and Carlos Acosta and he was technical director of Dance Umbrella for 25 years. He was head of production for Music Festivals including the Big Chill, Larmer Tree Festival and was in charge for 8 years of Artsfest – for Birmingham City Council – a free event for Birmingham residents in the city squares. Over the years Simon has worked with many theatre, opera and ballet companies and has toured opera around Europe and worked on many international shows around the world.
