Rina Mushonga - MA Theatre for Community and Education Graduate - Visiting Lecturer

Rina Mushonga BA, MA Rina is a multidisciplinary theatre-maker, musician and composer. She has released 2 critically acclaimed albums (Sony Music, [PIAS] Recordings) and has over 15 years of experience in the music industry. Rina works internationally, performing, collaborating and consulting on multidisciplinary creative projects and facilitating theatre and music programs. Her rich cultural background and a history of moving around strongly influence her genre-defying and cosmopolitan approach to the projects she works on. Born in India, Rina grew up in Zimbabwe, London and Amsterdam. Rina holds a BA in English Literature and Education (Wolverhampton University) and an MA in Theatre for Community and Education (Mountview). Her research focuses on critical, anti-racist and liberatory pedagogies and participatory theatre-based approaches in facilitating critical consciousness and engagement in minoritised young people. This research includes explorations of decolonial feminist theory, feminist leadership practices and critical race theory. Rina is co-founder of Brussels based street and contemporary dance-theatre company We Are Not People (2014) which she directs, writes and composes for. Rina’s work seeks to investigate and platform underrepresented narratives, inspired by the intersections of her own QWOC identities.
