'This Good Island' Play Reading

MA Theatre for Community and Education student, Emily Rodríguez, is holding a public play reading of her original work, This Good Island, which will be read by a diverse group of professional actors. The reading is part of Emily’s course dissertation, which investigates the efficacy and ethics of political theatre. Following the reading, Emily will facilitate a Q&A with the audience and actors. Audience members will be asked to fill out questionnaires before and after the reading.
Synopsis of Play:
This Good Island is a biographical play spanning the 1920s-50s, depicting the events of Puerto Rico’s independence movement and its ultimate defeat by the United States. It is a story of David versus Goliath, ripe with romance, friendship, and familial betrayal. The two prominent figures of the time spar, narrating the causes of Puerto Rico’s current colonial status, which they believe to be in opposition.
