FUNDING & SCHOLARSHIPS

Student loans, scholarships and alternative funding channels

STUDENT LOANS - UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

Students studying on one of Mountview’s CertHE, BA, BMUS, FdA courses may be eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan to put towards your tuition fees and a maintenance loan to help with your living costs.

Please note the student tuition fee loan is up to a maximum of £6,000 and does not cover the whole tuition fee. A portion of the fees must be paid ahead of your course commencement date, and your student loan will be paid directly to Mountview once you have enrolled onto the course.

For students to be eligible for Student Loan Company funding, they must be studying a qualifying course at an officially recognised Higher Education provider. All undergraduate courses at Mountview meet these criteria under our registration with the Office for Students, and subject to specific course designation being granted from the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).

Student loans are not available to students who have previously had a loan for another course, or for international students.

All full-time students can also apply for a maintenance loan to help with their living costs. The exact amount you can borrow will depend on:

  • your household income
  • where you live
  • when your start your course
  • what year of study you’re in
  • what help you get through the maintenance grant

SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year, Mountview awards a range of scholarships and bursaries to support students with the costs of study, made possible thanks to generous individuals, trusts and foundations.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of talent, potential and financial need and designed to ensure that cost is not a barrier to study.

Process

Each year we invite new and returning students to apply for scholarship support through a designed application process each year. Students that have received offers will be notified when the application is open.

Once scholarship applications have been received they will be reviewed by the Scholarships and Awards Panel. Scholarships are ordinarily a contribution towards fees and therefore are unlikely to cover your full tuition fees.

In 24/25, 1 in 6 students received a Scholarship with the average award £3,200.

We usually receive far more applications for scholarship funding than we have available so we encourage students to seek other funding opportunities as well. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis therefore continuing or returning students should apply for funding each year.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact Admissions@mountview.org.uk

ALTERNATIVE FUNDING

If you are looking to raise the funds for your time at Mountview then here are some helpful tips and avenues to explore:

External Scholarships: Our teams have identified some external scholarships for students to look into as well as Scholarship Search engines. Get in touch with Development@mountview.org.uk or Admissions@mountview.org.uk to receive this information. Please remember to review the eligibility criteria on them carefully before you apply for external scholarship support.

Community Fundraising: Starting a JustGiving, GoFundMe or similar giving platform is a great option to raise funds among friends, family and your community.

Local Groups: Its worth reaching out to local community groups from your local area or networks to see if they would offer support. Also consider local businesses that could offer support or sponsorship.

“Mountview was the only school willing to give someone like me a chance. I was going through the homeless system when I applied and I thought going to drama school was going to be an impossible mission, but then Mountview offered me a place and it changed my life.”
