Set in 1896 at a Cambridge college, the title refers to the derogatory term for female intellectuals and the campaign for women to be given a formal degree qualification alongside their male colleagues. Touching the feminist ideals of the late nineteenth-century with parallels of today.

This amateur production is staged under special licence from Nick Hern Books.

Joanna Bowman

Director

Joanna is a theatre director and dramaturg living in Glasgow.

She is Associate Director of the Tron Theatre, a Creative Associate of Vanishing Point, and a National Theatre Connections Mentor Director.

She has worked for organisations including the National Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland, Chichester Festival Theatre, Edinburgh International Festival, Citizens Theatre, Wilton’s Music Hall, Mahogany Opera, Perth Theatre, Òran Mór, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and Dundee Rep.

Jackie Snow

Movement Director

Jackie trained at London College of Dance and Drama and Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Performance: Gymnastic Dance Theatre Company.

Teaching: G.S.M.D, Head of Movement RADA, Senior Lecturer M.ST (MMU), BADA, LAMDA, Drama Centre, Rose Bruford, Mountview, Drama Academies USA and China.

Theatre: Master of Movement, Shakespeare’s Globe (Mark Rylance), Regents Park Open Air, Wyndham’s, Old Vic, RSC, National, Nottingham Playhouse, Northcott, Polka and Watermill.

Anna Kelsey

Set & Costume Designer

Anna trained at RWCMD.

She completed a year with the RSC as Assistant Designer 2018-19, is an associate artist at The Watermill Theatre and was shortlisted for the JMK 2023.

Selected design credits include: Shakespeare’s R&J (Reading Rep), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Sorcerers Apprentice, Indecent Proposal (Southwark Playhouse), The Wicker Husband, Under Milk Wood, Our Town (Watermill), Blue Stockings (Mountview), Ring Ring, Dance Nation (Omnibus), If.Destroyed.Still.True (Hope).

Assistant/Associate credits include: The Flying Dutchman (Opera Up Close), Pride and Prejudice* (*Sort of) (Minack), Purple Snowflake and Titty Wanks (Royal Court), The Boy in the Dress, Measure for Measure, Venice Preserved, Kunene and the King (RSC).

Berta Pibernat Trias

Lighting Designer

Berta, Mountview’s Senior Lighting Tutor, graduated in MA Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins, UAL.

She worked at Trinity Laban for over two years where she collaborated with choreographers such as Debbie Purtil, William Aichison and Eleven Farrer House.

Berta previously worked in the US, with Tony Award-winning lighting designer Christopher Akerlind, Tony nominee Barbara Damashek and Delia Mac Dougall in several theatre productions.

Her credits include: Exposure (tour), BOX (Inverted Theatre tour), The Brownie Club (Jacksons Lane), Withered Optimism and Splat (OftheJackle tour), Becoming Berenice (2018, Voilà Festival), MAPS (Pivot Dance 2017).

Sonum Batra

Sound Designer

Sonum is a Yorkshire-based musical director, composer and sound designer.

Recent credits as Composer and Sound Designer include: Lumbejills (Capitol Theatre, upcoming), Blue Stockings (Mountview), Ladies Unleashed (Hull Truck), Animalis Carnivale (Roehampton University), Favour (Bush Theatre), Red Sky at Night (Mikron Theatre), Arabian Nights (Hoxton Hall), Relativity (Finborough Theatre), Not the End of the World (Edinburgh Fringe), Rare Dreams and Persona both for Youth Music Theatre UK and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Warhorse Theatre Works).
